Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made Argentina: Southern Patagonian Peaks & Glaciers
Day 1 BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
Arrive in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, where you are met and privately transferred to your hotel. Settle in, and then join your private guide for a tour of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Soak in Buenos Aires’ elegant, old-worldly atmosphere — a touch of Paris here and a bit of London there, a dash of New York cosmopolitanism and big splash of Italian exuberance, along with a strong Latin American personality. Start in the Plaza de Mayo, a square dating to 1580 that is the political heart of the city. Continue to La Boca, a colorful, working-class port barrio (neighborhood), and finally to Puerto Madero, the city’s newest district, where red-brick warehouses have been transformed into trendy restaurants and bars. Return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
Fly to Calafate, a charming village on the banks of Lake Argentino that is the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, an area of lakes, mountains and glaciers offering astounding scenery.
Today, explore Perito Moreno glacier, travelling across the Patagonian steppe and Andean forest and viewing the distinctive notro tree with its rich red flowers en route. Upon arrival, walk footbridges that afford you awe-inspiring views of the glacier and hear the cracks and roars of the incredible living mass that is Perito Moreno — one of the few remaining advancing glaciers in the world. Hike at your own pace and ability for magnificent views of the glacier’s northern and southern faces. Then, set out on a mini trek experience over its millenarian ice field, beginning at the pier in Bajo de las Sombras port. Navigate across the Rico Arm, enjoying breathtaking views of the glacier’s front wall. Disembark on the opposite shore and join a small group led by a guide along the lake’s shore toward the edge of the glacier. Then, don a pair of crampons for a trek through a fascinating glacial landscape of streams, small lagoons, gullies, crevasses and formations of blue ice.
Journey overland to El Chalten village, located on the northern margin of the Lago Viedma. Proceed to your lodge, set amid the Los Huemules Reserve, known for its pristine ecosystem filled with landscapes ideal for hikes, overland trips, ice trekking and rock climbing.
Experience a choice of activities available at your lodge, exploring any of the nearby areas, each with unique geographic, cultural, and natural features. You may also opt to hike the valley, relax in a hammock on site, dine al fresco at a table by the river or savor a culinary experience in town.
Enjoy another full day of relaxation and recreation in this fabulous natural setting, partaking of diverse outdoors activities on offer at your lodge.
Fly to Ushuaia, where you are welcomed and privately transferred to your hotel. Check in to your amazing lodge, which resides in a fabulous natural setting where you can get up close to native flora fauna, go hiking or climbing or, seasonally, hit the local ski slopes.
After breakfast, venture outside Ushuaia for an unusual off-road experience that reveals the secrets hidden behind the Southern Andes range. Behold Lake Escondido, a natural wonder hidden at the bottom of a valley, as well as the impressive Lake Fagnano.
Board a boat to Gable Island, located in the middle of the Beagle Channel, taking in views of untouched nature and living history on an excursion that includes walking and canoeing. Proceed to a less-visited island to encounter a colony of endearing Magellanic penguin firsthand, strolling through their lively rookery. Afterward, continue exploring the natural splendors of Tierra del Fuego province as you relax and embrace the solitude of its remote, primal landscapes. Later, cruise back to the mainland and return to your hotel.
After breakfast, fly to Buenos Aires. Check in to your hotel and relax. This evening, head out for an evening of intimate music and dance at Rojo Tango, a Philippe Starck-designed cabaret where professional dancers bring to life the fantasy and sensuality of Argentina’s signature dance. Savor the breathtaking performance along with a gastronomic extravaganza complemented by the finest sparkling wines.
After breakfast, privately transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
